Petit Baroque is a baroque orchestral training program for advanced high school and university students.
Led by Victoria Baroque violinist Elyssa Lefergey-Smith, Petit Baroque gives string players the unique opportunity to explore Early Music repertoire in a baroque chamber orchestra setting, using period instruments.
Members of Petit Baroque work without a conductor, developing a high level of ensemble skills, period performance style as well as historical knowledge.
In the Spring 2020, Petit Baroque is excited to join forces with the Victoria Conservatory Opera Studio to present a fully staged performance of Handel’s opera, Xerxes. In these opera performances, Petit Baroque will be led by the legendary baroque violinist, Jeanne Lamon, and cellist Christina Mahler giving students the invaluable experience to collaborate and learn from world-renowned Early Music specialists.
