Summer Airs
PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF CONCERT LOCATION
Saturday, August 24 – 4 pm
Doors open at 3:30pm
St. John the Divine Church
1611 Quadra Street, Victoria
With rain in the forecast for all of Friday night and on into Saturday, we have decided to move the concert indoors at St. John the Divine Church.
So come in from the rain and join us for some late summer musical refreshment featuring soprano Chelsea Kutyn, a rising star who you may have encountered in recent performances with Pacific Opera Victoria or the Victoria Symphony.
The program will include some of Handel’s exquisite German arias, exploring the pleasure of gardens and the outdoors, keyboard music by Henry Purcell, delightful Scots tunes, and Couperin’s truly perfect “A Nightingale in Love”.
Performer: Chelsea Kutyn
Doing her best to follow the advice of mentor Ben Butterfield who said, “Don’t bore me!” Canadian soprano Chelsea Kutyn was recently a young artist with Manitoba Opera in their Digital Emerging Artist Program, and a featured soloist with Pacific Opera Victoria, the Regina Symphony Orchestra, and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO).
Other notable performances include praise for her portrayal of “Magda Sorel” in Menotti’s The Consul with Opera NUOVA- “Kutyn was magnificent…capturing the full range of Magda’s anger, exasperation and ultimate despair chillingly…her depth of characterization and technical command owned the room”(Opera Canada).
Chelsea is also a passionate administrator and producer, currently working for Pacific Opera Victoria and co-founding a small-scale production company- Revive Productions. To add to the excitement, in the last year Chelsea completed her Masters of Music and got married!
