French Ballet and Opera Suites
Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 8 pm
St John the Divine
1611 Quadra Street, Victoria
Directed by Marco Vitale.
The highly-accomplished Italian harpsichordist, Marco Vitale directs his Victoria Baroque debut in a programme of striking orchestral music from the 18th century Paris Opera.
Dance and opera went hand-in-hand in the Baroque Era, and opera scores included an abundance of vibrant instrumental music that set the atmosphere for each act and accompanied the colourful dance scenes.
This captivating programme celebrates the riveting dance rhythms, compelling melodies, and flamboyant orchestral textures written by some of the most celebrated ballet and opera composers of their time: Rameau, Marais, and Rebel.
